The Rural Municipality of Hanover, together with the LUD of Mitchell, are encouraging local residents in the community of Mitchell to participate in this fall’s community compost depot.
The RM of Hanover has designated the first three Saturdays in October as days that residents can bring compostable materials, including leaves and grass clippings, to the depot.
The new community compost depot will operate every Saturday from 9am-3pm, October 3rd through October 17th. The compost depot for Mitchell is located at the Mitchell Arena, 130 Ash Street.
Composting Guidelines
What to compost:
- vegetables and fruit (fresh, cooked, canned)
- coffee grounds/filters
- tea leaves/bags
- egg shells
- bread
- plain rice/plain pasta
- garden waste
- weeds without seeds
- grass clippings
- leaves
Do not compost:
- meat/fish/bones
- eggs/dairy products
- oily foods/sauces
- pet waste
- diseased plants
- metals
- synthetic materials
- plastic/petroleum products
The material collected in Mitchell is composted and screened at the City of Steinbach Landfill. Mitchell residents are encouraged to use compostable yard waste bags.
