On October 4, 2015 at approximately 5pm, Russell RCMP received a report of a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) incident in the RM of Riding Mountain West.
Police say that a 61-year-old man from Russell was participating in an off-road vehicle derby near Silverton, when his UTV hit a drainage ditch head-on. The rider was not wearing a helmet or a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
RCMP report that alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors.
