Halloween is here again and the RCMP want to remind everyone about some simple tips to make your night both safe and fun.
Your costume
- Can you see? Make up is better than masks because you can see where you’re going.
- Can people see you? Does your outfit have any reflective bits to it? By simply attaching a reflector or carrying a flashlight greatly helps other people and drivers to see you.
- Remember to dress for the weather
Trick or treating
- Go with friends and family
- Go to areas you know
- Always be careful crossing the streets. With more people being out, this means more vehicle traffic
Check your treats
- Wait until you have arrived home before eating any treats and
- When your evening is done, make sure you have a parent or trusted adult check your treats
Motorists
- Stop completely at stop signs and pedestrian crossings
- Expect the unexpected and be prepared for it
- Plan safe and sober rides home if you are celebrating Halloween
“Although Zombies are already dead and Superman has incredible power, children dressed as such are not invincible,” said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP. “Drivers should slow down throughout the day and evening, as kids will be everywhere and often not paying attention to cars.”
