On October 28, 2015, Steinbach RCMP received a report that a quantity of copper ground wire had been stolen from the Manitoba Hydro compound located on Highway 302, just north of Highway 1.
Police have determined that the theft occurred around 3:30am on October 27, 2015, where two suspects stole a substantial length of steel wire that had been coated in copper. Manitoba Hydro advised police that the wire is of little value as it is not solid copper.
Police and Hydro are concerned about the theft as the act of removing the ground wire could have put any of Manitoba Hyrdo’s employees working in the area at risk of electrocution.
