The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) has secured one of the first Provincial Leaders’ Debates of the 2016 Provincial Election. The debate will take place on November 25, 2015 during the AMM Annual Convention in Brandon.
Premier Greg Selinger, leader of the official opposition Brian Pallister, and leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party Rana Bokhari have all confirmed their participation in the debate.
President Chris Goertzen says municipal issues will be front and centre heading into the provincial campaign and it is important to AMM members to hear firsthand how each of the three major parties plan to address these issues if elected.
“Municipalities are struggling under the burden of a huge infrastructure deficit, and we want to know how the leaders will partner with us to address this burden,” explains Goertzen. “But our members are also interested in other issues such as recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals and attracting new businesses to grow our communities.”
The leaders will be asked to respond to questions about these issues during the one-hour debate, which will be moderated by Richard Cloutier, News Director of CJOB Radio.
The debate will be open to AMM members.
Over 800 municipal leaders from across the province will attend the AMM Annual Convention, which takes place at the Keystone Centre in Brandon from November 23-25, 2015.
