Premier Greg Selinger and members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) would like to invite Manitobans to the annual Legislative Building open house, taking place between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday, December 12, 2015.
“The holiday season is a great time to meet with our friends and neighbours,” said Premier Selinger. “The open house is allows us to connect with Manitobans and is always an enjoyable time for the whole family.”
Many rooms will be open for public viewing including the offices of the premier and MLAs, the party caucus rooms and offices, the offices of the lieutenant-governor, Speaker of the legislature and the clerk of the legislative assembly as well as the legislative reading room.
Photographers will be taking festive photos in the Rotunda and children’s activities will take place in Room 254. Children can take part in crafts and colouring from Art City, get their face painted and visit Santa, who will arrive at the top of the Grand Staircase at 1:30pm.
Choirs from École Constable Edward Finney School, École Île-Des-Chênes School, John Pritchard School, École LaVérendrye School, and Niji Mahkwa School will perform on the Grand Staircase throughout the afternoon. Following this, Daryl Reid, Speaker of the legislature, will lead the MLA choir performance on the Grand Staircase at 3pm.
This event is free of charge and donations for Christmas Cheer Board are encouraged. The most-needed gifts this year are unwrapped toys for older children between 10 and 14 and non-perishable food donations.
