Steinbach RCMP conducted three checks stops over this past weekend with a total of 96 vehicles being checked for the sobriety of drivers. Over the past week, eight offence notices were issued to drivers under the Highway Traffic Act.
On December 11 at approximately 11:50pm, police observed a vehicle traveling on Hanover Street weaving from lane to lane. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was found to be impaired. The 24-year-old male driver provided breath samples over twice the legal limit. He will be facing charges of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level of over 80mgs. He is scheduled to appear in Steinbach Court in early January.
On Saturday December 12 in the evening, a 25-year-old Steinbach man was given a 72 hour suspension for having a blood alcohol content between 50 and 100mgs of alcohol.
RCMP report that the Checkstops will continue throughout the holiday season.
