The driver of a car that was checked by RCMP officers in Dauphin on Saturday morning will be facing a charges of assaulting a peace officer and impaired driving.

Around 2:40 a.m. June 27, 2009, a car was observed traveling southbound on Main Street in Dauphin. An officer traveling behind the car noticed a person moving around in the back seat, leading the officer to believe that person was not wearing their seat belt. The car was stopped and the officer determined the woman had been drinking. A roadside screening test was conducted with the result being a fail. The 26 year old Ste. Rose du Lac woman was then arrested for impaired driving. At this time, she became combative with the officer and began punching and kicking at the officer. The officer was not injured.

The woman has been released from custody to appear in Dauphin Court on July 7, 2009.
