A low pressure system tracking through the Northern Plains has prompted Environment Canada to issue a snowfall warning for Steinbach and most of Southern Manitoba on this first full day of winter.
Environment Canada reports that the low pressure system will spread snow across the International border this afternoon. This snow will continue to spread through the Red River Valley and southeastern Manitoba through the early evening. Bands of heavy snow will give periods of very poor visibility at times. The snow will taper off early Wednesday as the low pressure system tracks through Ontario.
Total snowfall amounts are expected to be in the 10 to 20 cm range. At this time it appears that the heaviest snow will remain south and east of the City of Winnipeg although total amounts will still be close to 10 cm in Winnipeg. Travelers should note that North Dakota and Northwestern Ontario will also be affected by this snowfall event.
