On December 23, 2015 at approximately 10:30pm, members of the RCMP James Richardson International Airport Detachment responded to flight AC 154, which had been diverted to Winnipeg due to an unruly passenger.
Police say that the flight departed from Edmonton and was en-route to Toronto when a passenger became agitated and combative. The passenger had to be restrained by the flight staff, passengers as well as an off-duty RCMP officer.
Due to the unruly passenger, the flight was diverted to Winnipeg where it was boarded by RCMP officers stationed at the airport. The unruly passenger, Kelly Umphrey, a 31-year-old Mississauga Ontario man, was removed from the flight and has been formally charged with mischief over $5,000 as well uttering threats.
RCMP report that Kelly Umphrey remains in custody in Winnipeg.
