On January 1, 2016, at approximately 11:30pm, Stonewall RCMP were called to a residential fire on School Road in Stony Mountain after witnesses driving by the residence observed the house on fire and immediately called 911.
Initial police investigation confirmed that the fire claimed the life of an 86-year-old woman. The woman, who was unresponsive when located by fire fighters, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The RCMP Forensic Identification Section in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Commissioner are continuing the investigation. Police say that foul play is not suspected at this point.
