Steinbach MLA, Kelvin Goertzen, has written Transportation Minister Ron Lemieux asking him to make a priority the requests from the RM of Hanover on road repair in the Municipality.
“Hanover, like most of the Southeast, is growing at a rapid rate and that means that there is tremendous pressure on all infrastructure in the area including roads. The roads are busier, the traffic is heavier, and it means that more upgrades are needed,” said Goertzen.
Council for the Municipality of Hanover passed a resolution at its June 10th meeting asking for upgrades to Provincial Roads #311, #205, #206 and #52 west from Mitchell to Provincial Road #216.
Goertzen said while he understands there are priorities for roads across the province, the growth of the Municipality of Hanover not only means there are pressures on infrastructure, it also means that the province is taking in significant tax revenues from the area which should mean it can invest back in the region.
“With growth and activity in the area comes new tax revenue for the province. Some of the revenue needs to be reinvested in the roads for the safety of drivers and to keep commerce and business moving,” said Goertzen.
