On January 4, 2016, at approximately 10am, officers from the Virden RCMP were called to a report of a seriously injured 2-month-old girl near the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation.
While officers were heading to the location, they were notified that the infant had been transported to a local area hospital. The infant was later transported to a Winnipeg hospital where she remains in critical condition.
The Manitoba RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating with the assistance of the Dakota Ojibway Police Service. A residence on the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation has been secured and is being held as part of the initial investigation.
