At approximately 5pm, on January 11, 2016, officers from the Headingley RCMP received a report of two suspicious males in Elie.

Officers spoke to a 13-year-old female who stated that she was approached by two males in a van while she was in the parking lot of the Elie Community Centre. The males started asking her questions about where she lived and how old she was. The youth walked away and called her parents.

The van is described as a metallic blue colour. Both males were described as aboriginal in appearance, approximately 35-40 years old with medium length hair. The passenger of the vehicle was speaking with the female youth and was described as tall, skinny and wearing a black sweater.

“While there were no violence or threats, we need to be overly cautious and share this incident with our communities,” said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP. “Parents are also reminded to take the time to discuss safety scenarios with their kids, and what to do in cases like these. Anyone with information about this or similar cases is asked to contact their police of jurisdiction.”
