On January 14, 2016, at approximately 10:30am, Virden RCMP responded to a collision between a semi-truck and a mini-van on Highway 83, just north of the Highway 2 intersection.
Police believe that the semi was traveling south when it collided head-on with the northbound van.
RCMP report that the driver of the van, a 59-year-old man from Melita, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the sole occupant in the mini-van. The driver of the semi was transported to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
A traffic analyst is assisting the ongoing investigation in order to establish all contributing factors to the collision. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
