Residents of Steinbach will soon have the opportunity to express their views about recreation and cultural facilities in Steinbach. The Mayor’s Task Force on Public Engagement, consisting of councillors Michael Zwaagstra, Susan Penner, and Cari Penner, has announced the survey portion of the pubic consultation project will begin at the end of January.

The City of Steinbach has contracted with Manitoba based research company, NRG Research Group to conduct the survey. Residents will be asked to give their views about the proposed performing arts centre and also to prioritize future multiplex phases through a written survey. The survey will be available to all residents and can be submitted online or at city hall. In addition, a random telephone poll of Steinbach residents will be conducted in late January.

Councillor Susan Penner says that the data gathered from the written survey and telephone poll will help council make an informed decision about how to proceed next. “I’m looking forward to hearing from the public in a more formal way and hope that as many people as possible take advantage of this opportunity to provide their input,” stated Penner.

The task force will submit a formal report about its findings to council in March. A summary of the written survey and data from the telephone poll provided by residents will be made publicly available at that time.
