On February 5, 2016, at approximately 11am, Manitoba RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver who had just left a gas station in Gladstone after allegedly stealing fuel. The complainant reported that the male driver was possibly intoxicated and driving a white SUV headed west on Highway 16.
Police say that the vehicle was observed heading towards Neepawa. As efforts were made to stop the suspect, a collision occurred between an RCMP police cruiser and the suspect vehicle. An officer attempted to arrest the suspect and was subsequently dragged by the driver. During this time, the officer discharged his firearm in an attempt to stop the suspect. The suspect was not injured and the officer managed to free himself suffering minor injuries.
RCMP report that the suspect left the area in the vehicle and was later located and placed into custody. It has been confirmed that the vehicle he was driving was stolen. The suspect, a 27-year-old man from Winnipeg, remains in custody. Charges have not been laid at this time as the investigation continues.
