On March 4, 2016, shortly after midnight, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report that a robbery had just occurred at a liquor store in the 2400 block of Saskatchewan Avenue.
A witness stated that a female walked inside the business with a scarf hiding her face. After walking to the counter, she produced a knife and stole alcohol. She reportedly left the store in a grey four door vehicle.
Minutes later, while en route to the scene, officers were advised that a second robbery had taken place at a nearby coffee shop. The description provided by the caller matched the one provided in the first incident, including the fact that the suspect was holding a knife.
Officers attended the second location and immediately located the female suspect outside the business holding an undisclosed amount of money in her hands.
Police immediately arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old Long Plain First Nation woman, without incident. She remains in custody and is facing robbery charges.
RCMP report that no injuries occurred during the two robberies and that the investigation is ongoing.
