Manitoba-born race car driver and Niverville native, David Richert, has signed with Cram Motorsport to race in the Eurocup Formula Renault Championship. The calendar for Richert’s season includes one of the most exclusive and luxurious sporting events in the world, the Monaco Grand Prix.
For Richert, driving a race car through the streets of Monte Carlo at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix weekend is a very special dream to come true and a long way from growing up on a Canadian farm. In fact, more Canadians have been to outer space than have driven a race car in Monaco.
“I have had the opportunity to visit Monaco on several occasions but I have always refused to go,” said Richert, who is currently in Spain for pre-season practice. “I wanted my first trip there to be for the purpose of driving a race car. I’m excited that this year I will finally have the chance to live that dream.”
The Eurocup Formula Renault is the highest level of Renault 2.0 Championships around the world and played a part in launching the careers of many current Formula 1 superstars, including 3x World Champion Lewis Hamilton.
Cram Motorsport, based 20km from Lake Como in Italy, has had a long list of talented drivers compete with their team including Formula 1 race winners like Felipe Massa and Pastor Maldonado, as well as Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan. “We are happy to have David driving for Cram Motorsport,” said Gabriele Rosei (Team Owner of Cram). “He has a much smaller budget than the other drivers in this championship which makes things very difficult for him, but we want to give David the opportunity to succeed and it’s clear he is doing everything possible to maximize the resources he has available.”
Helping to make everything happen, one of Richert’s new corporate partners for 2016 is Diabolica Wines which is located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. Also new for this season are Karma Property Development, Loewen, and R.R. Dobel Insurance Agency. Silver Jeans Co., a long-time supporter of Richert Racing, will be returning once again for this year as well.
Richert’s first race weekend in Eurocup Formula Renault will take place next week, April 15-17, at Motorland Aragon in Spain.
