On April 14 2016, at approximately 9:50pm, Russell RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 41, approximately 5 kilometres south of St. Lazare, Manitoba.
Initial police investigation revealed that a northbound vehicle with two occupants rolled off the roadway, ejecting the passenger. Both occupants were transported to a local area hospital.
Police say that the driver, a 29-year-old man from Rocanville SK, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, a 39-year-old man from Regina was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
RCMP report that alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this incident.
“This may be yet another tragic reminder of the fatal consequences of driving while impaired,” said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP. “The behaviours of some drivers on our roads need to change, to not only protect their lives but also the lives of so many that travel on Manitoba roadways.”
