On April 24, 2016, at approximately 9:50pm, Steinbach RCMP temporarily shut down the westbound lane of Highway 52, 1/4 mile west of Steinbach, after locating a firearm and ammunition in a vehicle during a traffic stop.
Police say that the 33-year-old female driver was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear to attend Steinbach Court for charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The sole passenger of the vehicle, 21-year-old Tyler Sawatzky, was arrested and released on a recognizance before a Justice of the Peace on charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
