On April 23, 2016, just before midnight, Blue Hills RCMP officers received the report of a collision involving a semi tractor trailer unit and a pedestrian near the junction of Highway 1 and PR 110.
Initial police investigation has revealed that two 25-year-old men from the area were returning home and standing on the side of Highway 1, when one of them walked into the driving lane of the eastbound semi. A witness and evidence at the scene confirmed that the 37-year-old male driver attempted to avoid the collision without success.
Police say that the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other pedestrian and the truck driver did not suffer any injuries.
RCMP report that while the driver was not impaired, alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor to this fatal collision. The investigation is continuing, with the assistance of a traffic analyst.
