The Public Utilities Board (PUB) has granted Manitoba Hydro a 3.36 percent rate increase. The increase, to come into effect August 1, 2016, will result in a $2.83 increase in the monthly bill of a typical residential customer without electric heating, using an average of 1,000 kilowatt hours per month. Customers with electric heating, using an average of 2,000 kilowatt hours per month, will see a monthly increase of approximately $5.41.
“We are pleased with the order issued by the PUB,” said Manitoba Hydro President and CEO Kelvin Shepherd. “The PUB continues to recognize the need for moderate, predictable annual rate increases over a number of years.”
This rate increase supports long-term investment in electrical infrastructure ensuring Manitoba Hydro will continue to deliver a safe, reliable and secure energy supply to Manitobans. This includes development of major projects such as the Bipole III Reliability Project and the construction of the Keeyask Generating Station, together with the ongoing rehabilitation, expansion and modernization of Manitoba Hydro’s existing system across the province.
