Manitoba Growth, Enterprise and Trade advises that, according to Statistics Canada, the province had the second-lowest unemployment rate in the country in April.

In April, Manitoba’s unemployment rate was 6.1 per cent, the second lowest of any province in the country and was below Canada’s rate of 7.1 per cent. Manitoba trailed only British Columbia, which had a rate of 5.8 per cent. Manitoba’s April unemployment rate was up 0.1 percentage points compared to March.

In April, Manitoba’s youth unemployment rate stood at 11.8 per cent, down 0.4 percentage points from March. Manitoba’s ranking was third for youth, and below the national rate of 13.1 per cent.

The unemployment rate in the first four months of 2016 averaged 6.1 per cent. This was 0.4 percentage points higher than the same period in 2015 but below Canada’s average of 7.2 per cent.

The report also indicated that full-time employment in Manitoba was up by 1,200 jobs since March.
