Steinbach RCMP concluded their stop sign campaign yesterday, with results showing that over half of the vehicles observed did not stop properly at a stop sign.
The stop sign campaign was conducted on June 9, 2016, from approximately 10am through 12pm. During this period, police observed 891 vehicles with 411 vehicles properly stopping. RCMP rewarded some of these drivers with gift cards from local sponsors McDonald’s, Dairy Queen and A&W.
Police also observed 480 vehicles that did not stop properly. In these cases, officers spoke to the drivers and educated them on a proper stop as well as ramifications of not complying.
RCMP reported that in two cases, drivers flagrantly drove through the stop sign and were issued tickets for $203.80 each. Also, a warning for not wearing a seatbelt was issued to one driver along with a marijuana pipe being seized from another vehicle.
The RCMP Advisory Committee conducted this campaign in an effort to make local streets safer. Police remind drivers to always come to a complete and full stop at stop signs.
