On July 13, 2016 at approximately 9:30pm, Morden RCMP were called to a diversion dam after a 17-year-old boy, who was swimming with two friends, could not be located. The dam is located on Road 17 West in the RM of Rhineland, approximately three miles east of Winkler.

RCMP, along with Winkler and Morden Fire Departments, began to search the waterway but were unable to locate the young man. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and the Search and Rescue Unit assisted in the search.

Police say that the area where the boys were swimming was very fast flowing due the heavy rains over the past few days.
