On July 07, 2009 at around 11:50pm Selkirk RCMP received a report of a marked RCMP truck that was being broken into while parked at a Selkirk autobody shop while awaiting repairs.
RCMP attended the scene and observed a car departing the area. A traffic stop was conducted on the suspect vehicle and three young offenders were apprehended. RCMP recovered stolen property that had been taken from a storage box located in the box of the truck. Entry to the cab of the truck was not gained. RCMP also located open liquor and a machete during the search of the suspect vehicle. A digital camera was also seized as the suspects had video taped themselves stealing RCMP property. The video also showed two suspects using the machete on the police truck tires.
RCMP have charged a 16-year-old youth, a resident of Selkirk with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and two counts of failing to comply of a youth criminal justice act sentence. The youth was remanded into custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre in Winnipeg.
A 15-year-old Selkirk youth was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Selkirk Provincial Court on August 21, 2009. The youth will be facing charges of theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000 and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
A 17-year-old youth, a resident of the RM of St. Andrews was released on a promise to appear and is also scheduled to appear in Selkirk Provincial Court on August 21, 2009. The youth will be facing charges of theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.
