On July 19, 2009, at around 8am, Selkirk RCMP were notified that Grand Marais RCMP were involved in a pursuit of a Ford Mustang car that had been reported stolen from the City of Winnipeg earlier that morning.

The suspect vehicle was traveling southbound from Grand Marais on highway 59 in the RM of St. Clement’s with speeds exceeding well over 100 km per hour.

Selkirk RCMP deployed a spike belt near the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 4 north of Selkirk. The suspect vehicle made contact with the spike belt and turned west onto Highway 4. The suspect vehicle came to a rest a short distance away in a field and two males suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The RCMP Police Dog Service attended the scene and the two suspects were apprehended.

Selkirk RCMP have charged a 17-year-old Winnipeg youth with theft of motor vehicle over $5,000, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property Over $5,000, take motor vehicle without consent, flight from police, breach of probation order x4 and possession of a controlled substance. The youth was remanded into custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

Selkirk RCMP also released a 21-year-old Winnipeg man on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Selkirk Provincial Court on August 28, 2009. The man will be facing charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and joyriding.
