Manitobans continue to apply for the province’s Enhanced Identification Card (EIC), describing the application process as a positive experience, according to a recent Manitoba Public Insurance survey.
The survey reported that 95 per cent of respondents described the application process as “positive”, while 70 per cent described their experience as “very positive”. Results were generated from nearly 1,000 EIC applicants who completed a questionnaire during their visit to an EIC centre. The questionnaires were made available earlier this year from March to May.
To date nearly 5,000 Manitobans have applied for the EIC. As of June 1, 2009 all Canadian citizens 16 and over must present a passport or approved alternative when entering the U.S. by land or water. Since the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative took effect, American border authorities have been lenient with the law, however this will change September 1 when proper documents will be required by those crossing the border.
“The survey tells us Manitobans find the interview process is friendly and accommodating,” said Marilyn McLaren, CEO and President of Manitoba Public Insurance.
“The survey was very specific and designed to assist us in improving customer service as it relates to the EIC application process. The EIC is an approved option to the passport and continues to be in demand by Manitobans.”
Survey questions were wide ranging, from how the customer was greeted upon arrival, appointment waiting periods and service provided by the EIC interviewer. Customers were also asked to suggest improvements to the EIC services. Comments ranged from better signage; no waiting for appointments; free beverages and less documentation.
“We are pleased that our high standard of customer service has been upheld while delivering a complicated, thorough process, dictated by identification requirements within the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative,” said McLaren. “The survey will continue to be reviewed with the purpose of providing even better service to EIC applicants.”
