Round 5 of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup is set to take place this Sunday at the Autobahn Grand Prix in Joliet, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. As one of only 3 Canadians, David Richert is hoping for a good result this weekend, complete the race, and raise more money for Samaritan’s Purse by doing so.

But before the racing begins on Saturday, Richert will be attending the Joliet Jackhammers baseball game on Friday night where he will be throwing out the opening pitch.  The Jackhammers play in the Northern League which is the same league as Richert’s home city team, the Winnipeg Goldeyes, compete in.

The Autobahn Country Club will prove to be a challenging circuit based on sheer length alone as the track is over 3.5 miles long with 21 turns to navigate. “It usually takes a few laps to learn which way to go on a race track, but this may take a little longer” states Richert. With only a 30 minute practice session before qualifying, time is not a luxury this weekend and preparation is essential to speed up the learning process. Richert continues “…I fortunately was able to find the exact race track on the internet and download it to a racing simulation on my computer so I already have the track memorized and will be ready to go as soon as we get there.”

The race will take place on Sunday, July 26, at 4.40pm central time.  Follow the live timing from the Jetta TDI Cup page at richertracing.com.
