On August 1, 2009 at about 9:30am, the Ste Rose du Lac RCMP received a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the VLT Lounge at the Crane River First Nation in Crane River, Manitoba.
The suspect entered the establishment, pointed a shotgun at the lone male employee and demanded money. The 41-year-old employee, wrestled with the individual and forced him out of the building where the culprit let go of the shotgun and fled on foot.
Within four hours, the investigation lead to the arrest of a 16-year-old teenage boy from the Lake Manitoba First Nation, who’s identity cannot be disclosed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The youth was charged with robbery with a firearm, using a disguise to commit an offence, using a firearm during the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm for dangerous purposes and for failure to comply with the conditions of his youth probation order.
During the incident, no one was injured and no property was stolen or damaged.
The young offender has been remanded in custody to appear in Dauphin Court on August 4, 2009 at 10am.
While this incident ended safely, the RCMP cautions the public against taking undue personal risks and using physical confrontation when met with an armed suspect.
The investigation is continuing, with the assistance of the Dauphin RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Dauphin RCMP Forensic Identification Section.
