On July 31, 2009 at about 3:15am, Norway House RCMP responded to a complaint of shots being fired in the Rossville area of Norway House First Nation.

Upon arrival, police located an 18-year-old male from Norway House who had been severely beaten by a group of individuals. The 18-year-old male was medevaced to the Winnipeg Health Science Centre for life threatening injuries.  The victim remains in critical condition as of August 3, 2009.

The investigation revealed that an altercation took place between two separate groups of individuals from Norway House resulting in the injuries that the 18-year-old male had received. Police have also ascertained that one group of individuals was also involved in a home invasion prior to the assault taking place. Suspects forced their way into a residence located in Rossville armed with a shotgun in an attempt to rob the occupants of drugs and money. Occupants of the residence were at home at the time of the home invasion. None of the occupants were injured.

Police have charged three adults and one 16-year-old youth from Norway House Cree Nation with aggravated assault stemming from the injuries received by the 18-year-old male. 

One adult and four youths ranging in ages 13-16 from Norway House Cree Nation have been charged with break and enter with intent, attempted robbery, and several weapon offences in regards to the home invasion.

2 adults from Norway House Cree Nation have also been charged with accessory to the fact in regards to the aggravated assault.

Court has been set for Thompson Provincial Court on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. 

Norway House RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of the Thompson Forensic Identification Section and Winnipeg Serious Crime Section.
