The third week of the RCMP Christmas Checkstop program from December 15, 2008 to December 22, 2008 has resulted in numerous charges.
4768 vehicles being checked across the Province of Manitoba during 130 checkstops/roving patrols. Of those vehicles checked, 43 people were charged with either Impaired Driving or Drive Over .08 and another 2 persons were charged with Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample, for a total of 45 Criminal Code impaired violations.
The average blood/alcohol reading was 165 mgs% (0.165). The highest reading was 250mgs% (0.250), more three times the legal limit.
Other stats for the third week of the 2008/2009 program saw:
• 23-24 hour roadside suspensions.
• 52 people charged for not wearing their seatbelts and an additional 526 other statute charges (majority HTA) laid.
The RCMP is pleased to be able to say that no fatal motor vehicle collisions occurred during the third week of the checkstop program.
During the same period of the 2007/2008 program there were 15 people charged for impaired driving related offences.
The three week total shows that 14,259 vehicles have been checked with a total of 119 persons charged for Criminal Code Impaired Driving Violations, with a further 53 persons having their driver licences suspended for 24 hours as a result of roadside screening for alcohol consumption. There have been four fatal collisions and 42 injury collisions reported. One hundred eighty one (181) persons have been charged with failing to wear seatbelts and an additional 1632 other statute charges (mostly HTA) charges laid.
