Spruce Plains RCMP (Neepawa Detachment) are advising the public of incidents where local residents have received phone calls soliciting funds in support of Children’s School Programs to protect children from child predators.

These persons will attempt to solicit donations through a sales pitch asking for donations and are claiming association with the local RCMP. The caller claims this is a nation wide campaign and then asks for a $100 dollar contribution.  The caller may then negotiate for a smaller amount and then requests a credit card number. (Do not give out your credit card number or any personal information)

The RCMP do not engage in, endorse or conduct telephone solicitations to raise funds for community policing programs.

If you receive telephone calls asking for donations to  support community policing programs, you are at risk of being a victim of fraud. You may contact Phone Busters at 1-800-495-8501 if you believe that you or someone you know is a victim of telemarketing fraud.
