Between July 11 and August 10, 2009, Blue Hills RCMP detachments have received 27 complaints of break, enter and theft and vandalism.
The majority of these break and enters have occurred in the Rural Municipalities of Cornwallis and Whitehead. Other areas that have been targeted are in the Rural Municipalities of Elton, North and South Cypress, Oakland, Daly, and Glenwood.
The culprits appear to be targeting homes where the home owners are gone. Sheds on isolated rural properties, as well as homes that are under construction have also been broken into. There are no specific days or times that these crimes are being committed. A number of the crimes are occurring on weekends, and in many cases when property owners are away from their homes for an extended period of time.
The culprits appear to be interested in taking goods such as computers, camera’s, tv’s, and dvd players. In some cases, the culprits have also stolen firearms and jewelry. A number of the occurrences have resulted in senseless damages to the property.
Police are asking the public to be vigilant and to immediately report any observations of suspicious people or vehicles that are seen in the rural areas. Descriptions of suspects, vehicles, licence plates, clothing, and direction of travel are all very important information that will assist the police in these investigations.
If anyone has information on these crimes, please call your local RCMP detachment or Manitoba Crime Stoppers, who are willing to pay cash for information that leads to the solution of these or any other crimes.
