On August 13, 2009, shortly after 12:30am, RCMP Selkirk Detachment were dispatched to a hit and run just east of the East Selkirk Bridge on highway 204.

A 33-year-old man from Selkirk was killed on impact when he was hit by a vehicle while walking westbound on the highway. Evidence left at the scene lead investigators to an older model Chrysler Dynasty which has now been seized.

A 25-year-old man from the Beausejour area is currently in custody in connection with the incident and will be facing a charge of failure to stop at the scene of an accident under the criminal code.

A post mortem will take place August 14, 2009, at the Health Sciences Centre.

RCMP Selkirk Detachment continue to investigate in consultation with RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist and RCMP Winnipeg Forensic Identification Section.
