The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) “D” Division and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC), today, signed a Memorandum of Understanding supporting common goals to enhance relations and facilitate police service delivery to First Nations peoples in Manitoba.
Effective today, one member of the RCMP Community, Contract and Aboriginal Policing Services will be assigned on a full-time basis to work in partnership with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs. The RCMP member assigned will endeavor to:
• Build upon the partnership established between the AMC and the RCMP particularly in high profile matters of mutual interest,
• Liaise on policing and public safety matters of mutual concern,
• Foster improved communication and transparency between RCMP Detachments across the province, specialized units and First Nations leadership, and
• Provide information on the status, training and service delivery processes of provincially appointed peace officers involved in band and community policing duties through the mandate of Public Safety Canada and Manitoba Justice.
“This agreement will further strengthen the RCMP’s collaborative relationship with First Nations leaders and their communities,” said Assistant Commissioner D.W. (Bill) Robinson, Commanding Officer of RCMP “D” Division. “The RCMP’s unwavering commitment to the Aboriginal and First Nations people of Manitoba includes ongoing efforts to enhance relationships and improve policing service delivery throughout the province.”

This agreement we will strengthen our relations with the RCMP in a way that will also help communities and families, enhance public safety and improve police services to First Nations,” said Grand Chief Ron Evans, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.
