On August 19, 2009 at about 5:30am, RCMP Fisher Branch Detachment were dispatched to a shooting incident in the Community of Peguis First Nation. on Highway 224.
A 14-year-old was reportedly shot at while in the company of two boys ages 12 and 13.
The youth was taken to the Percy E. Moore Hospital in Peguis and subsequently transferred to the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg for medical treatment. His injuries are considered non-life threatening.
The incident is believed to have occurred between 4am and 5am and that the shots were fired from a vehicle.
A 19-year-old Winnipeg resident (originally from Peguis FN) has been taken into custody and a Chrysler Intrepid has been seized in connection with this matter. No charges have been laid yet.
RCMP Peguis Detachment continue their investigation with the assistance of the RCMP Fisher Branch Detachment, RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the RCMP Serious Crime Unit.
The investigation is continuing.
