On August 24, 2009 shortly after 12:30pm, RCMP Stonewall Detachment assisted by RCMP Headingley Rural Detachment and Traffic Services and the RCMP Police Dog Service responded to a collision at the intersection of Highway 236 and Highway 6.
Further investigation revealed that a homeowner near the town of Argyle came home to find that his house was being robbed by four male individuals driving a small blue car, later determined to be stolen. The suspects fled the house, with the owner following them leading to the two vehicles colliding at the junction of Highway 6 and Highway 236. The vehicle with the four suspects was knocked into the ditch. The owner approached the vehicle and a firearm was pointed at him by one of the vehicle occupants; he wisely retreated.
Three of the culprits managed to get out of the vehicle and make their way to the Red Sun Smoke Shop and Gas Bar located close by the intersection. One of the three culprits was detained by several people and employees who witnessed the incident while the other two ran to the Kiinu Gaming Centre next door. The two individuals then made their getaway in smaller brown vehicle that was unrelated to the incident. Police suspect that it is likely the driver of that vehicle was unaware of the circumstances.
The fourth culprit was arrested by police and remains in hospital under observation for non life threatening injuries.
The investigation by the RCMP determined that a young woman was at home when the break and enter was occurring and managed to hide in the house when it was being robbed. Further investigation by RCMP and the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit found that these four suspects were also responsible a recent break and enter in Oakbank and two others today in the RM of Rockwood, for a total of four break and enters. Many stolen items from these break-ins were located in the suspect vehicle, including several big screen televisions.
18-year-old Jordan Lee Fisher of Winnipeg has been charged with four counts of break and enter and possession of stolen property, unauthorized possession of a firearm as well as breach of probation offences. He remains in custody.
The 21-year-old, also from Winnipeg, will be formally charged with four counts of break and enter and possession of stolen property, unauthorized possession of a firearm as well as breach of probation offences once he is released from the hospital.
Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP are working together to identify the other two suspects involved in this incident.
The investigation continues with the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Service, RCMP Winnipeg Forensic Identification and RCMP Oakbank Detachment.
