On September 12, 2009 at about 12:21pm, RCMP Waywayseecappo Detachment were called to a residence on Waywayseecappo FN community to an unresponsive male.
RCMP and a family member initiated CPR on the man until ambulance personnel arrived. The 34-year-old man, a resident of Alberta who is originally from the Waywayseecappo FN, was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
Foul play is suspected. A post mortem is being arranged to take place at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
Thirty-five-year-old Ernest Leon Mentuck of Waywayseecappo FN was arrested and charged with manslaughter, two counts of trafficking narcotic and breach of peace bond. Mentuck is currently being held in custody and will appear in Brandon Court.
RCMP Waywayseecappo Detachment continue their investigation assisted by RCMP Winnipeg Forensic Identification Section.
