The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Provencher announced support for the communities of Saint-Georges, Sainte-Agathe and Glenlea.
“Through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) our Government is investing in the future of Manitoba,” said the Honourable Vic Toews. “Our investment in these three communities will help ensure they succeed at this time of economic slowdown and remain prosperous into the future.”
Under CAF, the Saint-Georges Community Development Corporation will receive federal funding of $315,000 to build two new homes and landscape the Cap Doré housing division. In 2010, construction will continue on an estimated six homes from the proceeds of the sale of the two initial houses.
CAF funding has also been awarded to Sainte-Agathe Community Development Inc. to build a permanent shelter for the Red River Valley Flood Interpretive Centre program in Sir George Etienne Cartier Park. This project will receive $231,464 from the federal government.
The University of Manitoba will receive $2,319,457 from the federal government under CAF, to build an 8,280 square-foot building, affiliated roadway, signage, exhibits and bio-digester for the Glenlea Farm Interpretive Centre.
As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) is a two-year, $1-billion national program that will provide an economic stimulus by supporting projects that create jobs and maintain employment in rural communities.
The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry.
