The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Provencher congratulated three Provencher area teachers on receiving the 2009 Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence and Excellence in Early Childhood Education. The Awards were presented earlier this week at a ceremony in Ottawa on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.
“These awards are handed out to teachers across the country and I am pleased to see three Provencher teachers recognized for the hard work they do,” said Minister Toews.
The awards include Certificates of Excellence and Certificates of Achievement for teaching excellence at all grade levels, from preschool through to secondary school. All have been recognized by parents and fellow educators as leaders who have been innovative in helping students excel.
Certificates of Excellence were awarded to Christopher Koop of Steinbach Regional Secondary School and Jacqueline Sturton of Pinawa Cooperative Nursery School. A Certificate of Achievement was awarded to Peter Slobodzian of Ste. Anne Collegiate.
“Teachers play a pivotal role in the lives of our children and it is important to take time to honour these teachers who have gone above and beyond,” concluded Toews.
