On October 8, 2009 at about 5:30pm, RCMP Carman Detachment received a 911 call of a head-on collision on Highway 3 one mile east of Sperling.
RCMP Carman Detachment along with the area Fire Department and EMS attended the scene.
RCMP learned an eastbound pick-up on Highway 3 lost control and collided with an oncoming SUV resulting in a T-Bone collision and severe damage to both vehicles involved.
A secondary collision occurred when another SUV, driven by a 36-year-old Morden women with her young child on board, hit large debris from the first collision. Neither the driver or her child were injured.
Of the two occupants from the pick-up, an 18-year-old Brunkild man was pronounced deceased and the other, his 20-year-old brother, seriously injured and taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The 48-year-old Carman driver of the SUV was taken to Heath Sciences Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor. Road conditions at the collision site are believed to be a contributing factor.
RCMP Carman Detachment continue their investigation with the assistance of the RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist.
