On October 18, 2009, at approximately 1:30am, members of the Steinbach RCMP responded to a fight in progress at a residence in the RM of Hanover.
When the police arrived they determined that a male subject had assaulted several patrons of the party. The victims had been assaulted with a baseball bat and a chair leg. Two victims had to be transported to the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach for treatment. Both were treated and released.
Alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.
36-year-old John Robert Doerksen of New Bothwell was arrested at the residence. Doerksen has been charged with several counts of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
Doerksen was remanded into custody for a court date of October 19, 2009 in Winnipeg.
