Skaters using the Landmark arena can be assured that the air quality within the facility has been tested and is clear for the second season in a row.

The RM of Tache recently tested the air quality within the facility and according to the mayor, there is no presence of contaminants.

Mayor William Danychuck says that the municipality has spent thousands of dollars to ensure that the facility is safe.

Repairs included a change in ventilation system as well as the installation of new fans. This was done last year after the facility was shut down for the end of the 2007 season, and the beginning of the 2008 season.

The closure occurred after a number of athletes reported ill-feeling following the use of the facility. Subsequent investigations revealed the cause to be poor air quality.

Danylchuk says that initially $50,000 was spent to upgrade the water systems and boiler which was expected to improve the heat and water in the facility. Additional work continues to be done.

Prior to this season, the municipality purchased equipment so they can monitor the air quality. Arena staff and the local fire department have been trained to use the equipment so the situation can be monitored on a regular basis.

A recent test was done specifically after the use of the zamboni and the results were negative for air contaminants, noted Danylchuk. At one point, the machine was suspected as the main cause of the problem.

So far this year, only one person has complained of ill-feeling following their attendance at the arena but there is no link to the facility.
