Over 60 Manitobans took the opportunity on Monday October 26, 2009, to purchase or lease unclaimed cottage lots from previous draws on a first-come, first-served basis, Conservation Minister Stan Struthers announced.

“It is clear from the strong initial response that Manitobans are still interested in the opportunity to acquire a lot in cottage country,” said Struthers. “People were lining up as early as last Friday for a first crack at the lots made available yesterday.”

Within the first eight hours of the draw, 62 successful deals were completed. The most popular areas for lot selection the opening day were the Interlake with 19, the northwest area with 12 and Grindstone Park with 13. A total of 319 Crown lots are available for sale and 36 provincial park lots for lease through the First‑come, First-served program, with Manitoba residents being given priority in acquiring the lots for the first 120 days. Effective Feb. 23, the program will open to non-residents of Manitoba.

The First-come, First-served program will allow Manitobans to purchase one lot for the first 30 days with no purchase limit after that. All applications must be submitted to the Manitoba Conservation office at 200 Saulteaux Cres., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3W3. For the first two weeks, applications must be made in person. After Nov. 6, applications may be made in person or by mail.

A listing of all lots available along with a map, rules and other information related to this program is available online at www.manitoba.ca/conservation/fcfs_cottaging/ and at Manitoba Conservation offices throughout the province.
