Thanks to generosity throughout the region, over 700 families celebrated a better Christmas season.

Southeast Helping Hands reached far and wide throughout the region to distribute 670 holiday hampers. These hampers were distributed over a two day period to both local and rural communities like Vita and Niverville.

According to Hank Klassen, from Southeast Helping Hands, there were some tense moments when the demand generated a need for 120 more hampers than expected. However, a plea for funds to the community three days before delivery proved to be quite a success, and all hampers were delivered on time.

“We are extremely grateful to the community for its help financially,” stated Klassen. “We are also extremely grateful to the many volunteers that pitched in with packing and helping to deliver.”

While Southeast Helping Hands saw a significant increase in demand for Christmas hampers, the Knights of Columbus in Ste. Anne saw a decrease. The organization prepared and delivered 45 hampers to residents in the area.
