In the early hours of October 30, 2009, following an investigation which began in July of this year, RCMP Lac du Bonnet Detachment executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act on a former commercial building in Elma, Manitoba.
Two suspects were taken into custody and over 700 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, as well as grow equipment, was seized.
Charged under the controlled drugs for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, cultivation of marijuana and theft of telecommunication are 38-year-old Man Minh Nguyen of Winnipeg and 26-year-old Jiebin Deng of Vancouver, BC. Both have been held in custody and are appearing in Winnipeg court on November 2, 2009.
The street value of the marihuana seized in this investigation is estimated at over $700,000.
This investigation follows a separate investigation into another grow operation where a search warrant was executed in the early morning hours of September 30, 2009.
This investigation, which began in September, 2009, resulted in the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant for an outdoor marijuana grow operation at a rural property, in the RM of Lac du Bonnet, with assistance by the “D” Division Emergency Response Team.
In this search, 191 marihuana plants were seized as well as a quad and grow equipment. The street value of the marihuana seized in this investigation is estimated at nearly $200,000.
No charges have been laid in this matter as of yet and the investigation continues.
