On November 6, 2009 at about 7am, RCMP Units from Oakbank, Selkirk and East St. Paul and the Springfield Fire Department responded to a collision on Garven Road about one mile east of Highway 59.

A Ford Ranger pick-up heading eastbound on Garven Road collided with a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee. The driver and lone occupant of the Ford Ranger, a 51-year-old from Richer, was taken to Concordia Hospital. The two occupants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, 45-year-old man and woman, were also taken to Concordia Hospital after being extricated from their vehicle.

Road surface condition (frost) is considered a contributing factor. Alcohol is not considered a factor. What lead to this collision remains under investigation.

RCMP responded to 12 collisions this morning between 6:30am and 8:30am, on the Perimeter and various highways near Oakbank, Stonewall and Selkirk, largely attributed to slippery road surface conditions. With temperatures fluctuating and directly affecting road conditions, motorists are reminded to adjust driving speeds accordingly.
