The RM of Piney has terminated a number of fire protection agreements.

Two months ago, the municipality was asked to expand emergency medical service coverage to Moose Lake. However they did not make any decisions until they were able to take a closer look at their emergency department.

Reeve Marvin Havorka explained that the municipality’s emergency department has already experienced challenges with regard to distance, manpower, and financial resources.

“We recently signed agreements with the peat moss plant and we are already stretching our resources,” Havorka stated.

The municipality re-evaluated the municipal fire department resources and services during their November and December meetings before coming to a decision. As a result of their discussions, council voted to cancel all fire agreements reached with the Moose Lake Cottage Association, Premier Peat Moss and FPM Peat Moss.
